a blessing
it’s a blessing to have brothers who understand immediately when I say, “I am not humble enough to lead.”
only a year left with these amazing brothers and sisters in my class… in one year, we will be exactly where the class of 2012 is.
dang.
(except I’m not graduatinggggg whooooooarchitecture)

Every other sentence that comes out of my mouth this semester has been a complaint.
No matter how genuine my complaining is, no matter how understandable it is, no matter how serious it may be, I ask you to be loving and remind me of greater things. Please remind me that God does not take complaining lightly; I am in effect complaining about God’s provision, which is so much greater and...

control
I had a series of minor mental breakdowns last night, starting at 9pm, then again at around midnight, and then once again at 5am. There are several reasons for my lack of stability - 1. I am stressed because of deadlines and obligations I have for the next two weeks, 2. I have been stressed because of deadlines and obligations for the past six weeks, 3. I haven’t slept or eaten normally for...
the extrovert
After a lifetime of introvertedness, I wonder when my extrovertedness first emerged.
Was it in these past few weeks? When the pain of not seeing anyone because of Structures caught up to me and I refused to work in solitude for an entire week? Or was it the week after Spring Break, when I stopped being able to do work in my room because it was there where I first felt a painful anxiety that...

In between
I am a sojourner, passing quickly through a world destined to fade away.
I am a prisoner of human judgment, surrounded by hidden whispers and fake smiles.
I cannot satisfy any man, for they all pull me in different directions, insisting I must be who they see me to be.
Guide me with the words of God but do not claim Lordship yourself, for I worship a living and personal God.
I am far from...

An article by Jason Helopoulos on The Gospel Coalition. He has also written a follow-up to the article, a commentary on John Calvin.
Excerpt:
“We all have opinions, convictions, and passions, but I wonder if we can establish at the very least these ground rules related to our congregational singing?

role model
I loved Pastor John’s warning to us about viewing those who are both worldly successful and a devoted Christian as our Christian role models. I recall being encouraged to be successful so that people will listen to me when I talk to them about Jesus, as if my status will give me leverage.
But my magnet high school degree, ivy league education doesn’t do squiddity-squat for the Kingdom...

pondering on support letters
I read a bunch of my old support letters while writing my current support letter for Philly 2012. I admit… I was busy and neglectful so I only finished writing it tonight… But … it’s okay. Haha.
It’s kind of an eerie experience to read your old support letters - especially if you’re like me and your letters are straight up dripping with emotion. My thought...

some thoughts.
Fifteen of us prayed together on a saturday night, surrounded by the sounds of partying. We were amidst the world without coloring ourselves like them. But we knew our own hearts and how ridiculously easy it would have been for us to be on the other side of the wall. For many of us, we had been there. For the rest of us, we had wished to be there.
I take grace for granted and don’t...

Pilgrim EM Retreat day 1
Pastor Young Kim from GCC:
“All of us are always traveling in somebody’s plan. Do you spend time meditating on the plan God has for you?”
“Relationships: Right person, right time, right way.”
“When God convicts you, just go straight. Obey.”
“Even if you are successful in the future, if you don’t listen to stop, surrender, listen, and...

home.
Let’s be real in saying that - aside from the last few weeks of the semester, I really didn’t have a good semester. But I am so grateful to the God who can bring so much healing and comfort with a mere 24 hours in New Jersey; even though it is pretty much the armpit of the world, I can’t imagine calling any other place home.
So thankful for my family and my home. For my parents...

a discussion on sleep between two nocturnal...
me: I figured out I can pull off sleeping only two hours for several consecutive nights without really feeling anything
me: but I just start ... decaying
Zia: You cannot survive like that
Zia: Please sleep more
me: I wonder why
me: God had us sleep 8 hours
me: I wonder if there's any good scriptural basis as to why we waste a third of our lives
me: I would like to know
Zia: Haha bro you're looking at it wrong
Zia: Sleep is a blessing that we may be rested and start anew each day
Zia: It is also a daily reminder of our feebleness
Zia: That we are so little and puny and fragile
Zia: And also to remind us that even with each new day we cannot live it perfectly
Zia: Each day we sin anew even though we're given a new day to start with after rest
Zia: Also if used properly sleep allows us to rest that we may follow the lord the next day with rested and refreshed minds
Zia: Think about how much time you waste of the day in sin and away from god
Zia: That's not just wasting your day with nothingness but is harmful for you
Zia: So in comparison a third of your life resting is better than anytime in sin
